Pellet Stove, Power Outage, and Sleigh Ride '08

Some people asked for pics of our pellet stove install, here it is. Keeping us toasty warm without using oil!

We had a bad ice storm up here a week or so ago and lost power. Temps in the house fell to around 50 before we figured out how to get the stove running on battery power, then we were fine.

Finally, we took a nice sleigh ride around downtown with Ella. She had a great time waving to all the nice people shopping on Exchange street in the Old Port.

Ella's Birthday Weekend

Ella helped us plan her party, then was the belle of the ball. Notice her 'Beatles' shirt, we had Beatles playing at her party. We took her to an apple orchard to pick apples Sunday morning!

Shawnee Peak

We climed Shawnee Peak on my birthday. It was 2.5 miles up to the top, where there is a fire-watch tower. It's a 1500 ft. accent total. It started out as kind of a trainwrek; we couldn't find the entrance to the trail. When we did, we ended up on the wrong trail, a logging road that was nothing but shredded trees and mosquitos (of course, we forgot the mosquito spray).

We almost gave up, but found the right trail and up we went. Boy are we glad we didn't quit! We were rewarded with a challanging climb up a granite watershed, and a spectacular view at the top. Mt. Washington could be seen looming over the White Moutain range at the top.

Ella's First Steps!!!

We finally had a nice overnight trip on the sailboat to Harpswell, Maine. That's about 15 miles NE of Portland. We had favorable winds, so it was about a 3 hour sail. We really enjoyed the trip, there is a nice marina/restaraunt and the views are spectacular.

Ella woke us up on Sunday morning at 6am, and it was bright and sunny. We went back to bed and by 8am we were completely fog-bound. We ended up motoring back, depending on our GPS to get us home safely. The return trip took about 2 hours.

White Mountains (New Hampshire)

Denise and Michele decided that Ella must now 'fly' over various picture-worthy objects like Mount Washington. So, off she goes...

Honk! Honk!

Ella really is starting to communicate. When she is in her swing, if we call out 'honk honk' she'll slap the little horn on her little play steering wheel.

Ides of March

The last item in the slide show is a video of Ella performing her best 'roll over'. Max is not very impressed, but we think it's pretty cool. Click on it to bring it up (I should have put it in a section by itself to play automatically on the blog).

Ella's Big Flip

Ella rolled over from the first time this week. While not quite the triple-lutz or double-soucou that we were hoping for, we will nonetheless be placing her bid for the Beijing Olympics ;)

Ella and the Mysterious Rice-Like Substance

I actually tried some of her rice cereal. It was pretty good. Then, I realized it was mixed with...um, milk. Still, not bad ;)

Sleighride to Ohio

Hmm, let's see. A snowstorm that cleared up south of Maine, about a dozen trips between Mt. Gilead and Marion (and Polaris), and Delphos. One spike through my front tire, and a roof rack malfunction that cost us a piece of luggage (and probably the person following us a pair of drawers). Ho, ho, ho!
